RubberGem secures funding in WA’s Recycling Modernisation Fund

Congratulations to Matters Enterprises Pty Ltd trading as RubberGem, successful applicant in the second round of the Western Australian Recycling Modernisation Fund.

The Recycling Modernisation Fund, co-financed by the Western Australian and Federal Governments, offers successful applicants a portion of $30.75m to construct, enhance, or upgrade waste processing facilities and advance recycling capabilities throughout Perth and regional Western Australia.

RubberGem is a leading Australian rubber recycling and re-manufacturing business with operations in Perth, Western Australia. RubberGem successfully secured $5m from the Recycling Modernisation Fund for its $9.3m project which will build a pioneering recycling facility in Western Australia, establishing fully circular recycling of off-the-road (OTR) tyre waste.

The funding will allow RubberGem to develop a tyre collection and grading facility in regional Newman, WA, as well as acquire, install and commission state-of-the art rubber devulcanisation technology at its Rockingham site.

The project will diversify RubberGem’s current operations, adding a new rubber waste recycling capability through the devulcanisation recycling process secured. The Project supports remanufacture of recycled materials into sustainable tyres and other rubber products for global markets.

Grant Thornton was proud to support RubberGem in this grant application, and support recycling and sustainability initiatives aligned to Western Australia and Australia’s strategic priorities.

“Supporting the development of a circular economy across the breadth of Australian industry is crucial for recovering valuable materials for reuse and remanufacture. This funding represents a positive investment from both State and Federal Governments in catalysing Western Australia’s waste recycling systems. Grant Thornton, with our strong ESG focus, are proud to have supported this funding application,” said Simone Barker, Director, Innovation Incentives.

Corey Matters, Managing Director of RubberGem, shared, “Before meeting Simone and the Grant Thornton Government Grant Team, we had worked with other grant writers without success. The Grant Thornton team impressed us with their efficiency in synthesising the necessary information for our application. Their breadth of expertise was evident, from a strong understanding of the policy landscape to exceptional strategic thinking and communication skills. The skill of the team extended to support in preparing a cost-benefit analysis that demonstrated the project’s value to government, and the results speak for themselves.”
