Thomas Caldow

I have spent my entire career in forensics, gaining a deep understanding of the complexity involved in expert witness reports and how they are perceived by the Court. This enables me to have robust and productive conversations with clients and their legal team in seeking to achieve the best possible outcome.

Partner – Forensic Consulting

Tom draws on his extensive experience in the preparation of accounting expert witness reports across various jurisdictions to assist clients and their legal team in framing the financial components of the dispute in a robust and reliable manner.

His engagements cover a wide range of core issues pertaining to legal disputes including business valuations, the quantification of loss and damage and the assessment of personal injury claims for both applicants and defendants.

Tom primarily works across our Melbourne and Adelaide offices, having worked with legal practitioners across various jurisdictions acting on behalf of Not for Profits, ASX listed companies and large private companies and family groups – in particular in the agribusiness, food & beverage, retail & consumer products and professional services industries.

As a well-respected and trusted accounting professional, Tom has been appointed as the young professionals representative to the CAANZ Forensic Accounting Special Interest Group and is the founder and chair of the Forensic Accounting Young Professional Network.  Tom is also well-known among accounting and legal professionals in Australia and overseas for his review of expert witness-related legal judgments through his LinkedIn profile.

  • Quantification of loss in commercial disputes including shareholder oppression and shareholder transaction disputes
  • Quantification of loss in personal injury disputes
  • He is also active in the Agriculture, Food & Beverage industry.

  • Assessment of loss in personal injury matters for individuals resulting from motor vehicle accidents, employment contract disputes and institutional abuse claims
  • Assessment of loss and damages in complex and high-stakes litigation for litigants involved in commercial disputes including post-acquisition disputes, intellectual property infringement and misleading & deceptive conduct matters
  • Business Valuation for family law proceedings involving complex family groups including Australian and international entities
  • Business valuations for compulsory acquisition purposes for major infrastructure projects in across Australia
  • Forensic investigation involving employee fraud, accounting compliance and regulatory matters.

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), University of South Australia
  • Member for the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia
